The Columbia University was first established as a collage called King’s College by the royal charter of George II of Great Britain in reaction to the founding of Princeton University in New Jersey. Which was later renamed “Columbia College in the year 1784 following the American Revolution then in 1787 it was placed under a private board of trustees headed by former students Alexander Hamilton and John Jay. Then in 1896, the campus was moved to its present day location in Morning side Heights and was renamed Columbia University. Columbia University scientists and scholars have played an important role in the development of notable scientific fields and breakthroughs which include: the first nuclear fission reaction in the Americas; nuclear magnetic resonance; brain computer interface; the laser and maser, ; the first nuclear pile;; Thomas Hunt Morgan’s drosophila experiment which is considered to be the origin of modern genetics; the first evidence for plate tectonics and continental drift; and much of the initial research and planning of the Manhattan Project during World War II. The Columbia University Physics Department has been affiliated with 33 Nobel Prize winners as alumni, faculty or research staff, the third most of any American institution behind MIT and Harvard. In addition, 22 Nobel Prize winners in Physiology or Medicine have been affiliated with Columbia University. It is the third most of any American University.

The Pulitzer Africa Data Journalism Scholarship Grant is open to international students to enable them to pursue a Master of Science in Data Journalism or double Degree in a Master of Science in Journalism and Computer Science. The program is going to be a three-semester program that provides enough training needed to tell deeply reported data-driven stories in the public and private concern.

Qualification

The scholarship is open for applications from African countries

In addition, the applicant must meet the following criteria To be eligible:

The applicant Must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university in united state or its equivalent from another country in the world

Method Of Application: To apply for the scholarship, applicant must be enroll as a master’s Degree student at the university. After Enrolling, they can apply through the online application portal. with some Supporting Documents which include your: CV, GRE scores, official transcripts, , three letters of recommendation and Journalistic or written work samples must be submitted with your application form.

Volume of the award: The Columbia University will provide up to $150,000 for a student, who is a resident of a country in Africa admitted to either the M.S. in Data Journalism or the dual Master of Science program in Computer Science and Journalism.

Deadlines Of Application:

For the Master of Science in Data Journalism: it ends on 30th December 2019

While the Dual Degree in Master of Science in Computer Science and Journalism ends in 25th January 2020
